Through this project, I am looking to fully transport us to our dream destinations, as much as is possible, right from our sofas. This will take the form of immersing ourselves in novels and films set in our countries of interest; enjoying traditional and special foods from the regions; as well as obtaining souvenirs and engaging in conversations with residents of these nations. One additional way that modern technology will help us to fully experience our destinations will be through the use of virtual reality! We have a set of virtual reality goggles at our house that we will be using, and you can follow along from your sofa as well. Whether you have a top-of-the-line VR toy or want to use a much more affordable option (check out really accessible options like Google Cardboard), I invite you to join me!
I came across a really great app for the VR goggles called, Wander. It is a tiny bit glitchy (I'm hoping I will be able to figure out some of the quirks the more I use it) and for $10, it is a great deal for the opportunity to travel to any address in the world and walk around! I will certainly be using it extensively throughout this project. So far, I have spent a bit of time walking around in #Andorra. I had read about the mountains and the valleys, but being able to see them as close to in person as possible is breathtaking! The app uses Google Maps to give us a close to immersive experience. I am hoping that at some point in the future, there will be a chance to add ambient sound to make the experience truly realistic. For now, this gives us the chance to be there.
