TV SHOW REVIEW: Lupin (in France)!

This week, I stumbled upon a show that was perfect for this project, and perfect for our current week in #France... Lupin!

This is a French Netflix original series that is set in modern day Paris. It came out this past year, and this first season was only five episodes, so we streamed an episode an evening, and we just finished it up.

Lupin is a suspenseful, action-filled mystery, in which nothing is quite as it seems. The show does a good job of teasing out new clues just as we think we've figured it out.

The first episode opens when we meet a man who is a janitor at the Louvre, and suggests that we will be watching a show about the heist of very expensive, queen's necklace. A bit at a time, we learn... is the man really a janitor at all? Why does he want to steal the necklace? How does his back story drive his complex life? Who is he, really?

The story line of this show is loosely inspired by a series of books by French author Maurice Leblanc, who created the fictional character Arsène Lupin the early 1900s. As much as we are taken on a ride of twists and turns throughout these five episodes, one constant is that our main character is obsessed with and deeply inspired by the character of Arsène Lupin.

It was a gripping story, and even in the last episode, we are on the edge of our seat until the end, wondering how it will be resolved. I won't spoil it for you, but I highly recommend it. Watch it in the original French language, with English subtitles. The language and the Parisian scenery as backdrop lay such a beautiful foundation for the presentation of this story.

Let me know what you think!
