The 2011 Spielberg theatrical release of the 3D Computer Animation Action Adventure film, The Adventures of TinTin (based on beloved Belgian comic strip artist #Herge's comic strip, #TinTin) had not made it onto our radar at the time, so it was fun to discover this film anew for our family movie night this week!
We were additionally not very familiar with the comic strip, so it was also our introduction to TinTin the character. TinTin appears to be a boy, but lives as an adult with his own apartment, dog, job as a journalist, adult enemies and harrowing adventures! The movie had enough adventure and humor to keep two parents and an 11 year old engaged and cheering throughout the 107 minute runtime.
TinTin and his dog, Snowy, live in an unnamed (and very Belgian) European city. The two purchase a cool old model of a ship at a flea market, and world-wide wild adventure begins as he is pursued by those who want a secret and historic scroll hidden inside the model ship. We were on the edge of our seats throughout the film!
There were some beautiful depictions of #Belgium featured, and it was fun to learn about a character who is beloved by the Belgian people as we continue along our virtual travels through Europe. All three of us highly recommend this movie for your next family movie night!
Let me know what you think when you and your family watch it!
