FILM REVIEW: Amélie (France)

The next film we watched along our virtual backpacking trek through Europe, at our current stop in #France was the 2001 movie, Amélie. I had not caught this film when it was first released, and it has been lingering on my wish list for years, so it was fun to finally watch it. At first, I had assumed this was a family movie, but was surprised to find reviews extremely mixed about that online, so we decided to save this one for a date night.

It was a very sweet and clever movie, and we really enjoyed it! The premise of this film - which takes place in modern times - is that a very shy young woman has spent her entire life, as a result of tragedy and misunderstanding, extremely alone and introverted. One day, she makes a discovery that inspires her to connect with another person to help them. Through an awkward series of attempts to do so, she learns about the power of connection and of helping others. Ultimately, these quirky and fun attempts at connection lead her to a romantic relationship.

This was a fun, generally lighthearted (though there were dark moments) film, and an enjoyable date night. I recommend checking it out!
