This past week, I read The Quiet Girl by Peter Høeg, which took place in #Denmark.
I found this story very clever and ethereal, as much as it was full of intrigue and adventure. It is the story of Kasper Krone, a world-famous circus clown who has the gifted ability to see everyone at another level - as a music note - thanks to his deep appreciation for the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Additionally, his lifetime of circus training helps him navigate tricky social situations.
He spends the book in pursuit of a young girl who he does not know - he's met her for just a few moments, but who he knows is very unique - he cannot associate her with any note at all. He feels connected with her at a higher level than everyone else, and he has promised her that he would protect her.
As he proceeds through the book, he moves through heart-pounding adventure and finds himself in deeper and deeper trouble at every turn. Just when we think we've figured out one mystery, a twist makes us question what we assume, and it is not until the very end that we learn how all the pieces of the story fit together.
This was a fun way to dash through Copenhagen, and a different type of book than we have read yet as a part of this project.
I very much recommend it!
