This past week, I read Ledra Street by Nora Nadjarian, which highlighted daily life and touched on politics on the island nation of #Cyprus. After some heavier books in this project, the light poetic style of the variety of short stories in this book was a treat.
Set in the author's hometown of Nicosia, this collection of stories gives us a first-hand account of what life is like in Europe's last divided capital. Living in Berlin this year, right next to where the Wall once stood, I appreciated reading this account a little more than I would have previously, I think. It's always important for us to understand what division feels like so that we can remember the importance of community.
Nadjarian does an excellent job bringing many different voices and perspectives to us in this variety of short stories, giving us a beautiful, rich insight into an island nation that is definitely worth knowing.
I recommend this quick, beautiful read!
