Tea is a significant part of the culture of Azerbaijan. For this reason, I ordered a tin of tea as our souvenir from this week's virtual visit to the country. The tea came in a pear shaped container, which mirrors the shape of the glasses used by tea drinkers in Azerbaijan.
I especially wanted to try this tea, as I read all week in different places that one of the unique habits of Azerbaijanis is that tea is served with jam... but not to spread on toast. When drinking tea, you should take a bit of jam or a cube of sugar, hold it in your mouth, and then take sips of tea, and let it mingle with the sweetness of the jam or the sugar as you enjoy it. This seems like the perfect way to end my virtual visit to #Azerbaijan!
